Two families grow closer
over one table at a ryotei
What a kao-awase is
The couple who are about to marry and both their families
gather for a meal and get to know one another.
It is not bound by the form a yuino takes:
the two families are brought together over the food —
the modern way of doing it.
In the calm of a private room, around a kaiseki course of the season,
both families can spend a time that belongs only to them.
How it differs from a yuino
A yuino is the Japanese rite in which two families formally confirm
the promise of marriage, and custom matters greatly in it.
A kao-awase meal, by contrast, keeps to no fixed form:
the families sit around a kaiseki course and grow closer — the modern way.
Choose whichever suits both sides.

Why families choose Jisaku for this
WHY JISAKU-
一Private Rooms
A private room,
the space kept to your familyEvery room here is private, so a gathering with a baby or small children, a guest in a wheelchair, or a large and lively party is all equally at ease. Choose between sunken kotatsu, tatami, and Japanese chairs at a table. We cannot promise a particular room, but do tell us the seating style you would like. A nakai is assigned to each room to look after you.

二Garden View
A formal Japanese room
looking out on the gardenPrivate rooms in a sukiya house, with the garden in view. As the season turns, it makes an occasion both families will remember.

三Dedicated Staff
A nakai of your own
keeps the day movingWhen to raise the toast, how the courses follow one another, when to take the photographs — an experienced nakai looks after all of it.
What to settle before the day
PREPARATION CHECKLISTFix the date
Agree a date between the families. Tell us if you want a taian or tomobiki day and we will work with it. Popular dates go early, so please book well ahead.
Choose the room
A calm private room is set aside for you. Let us know the numbers and the seating style you prefer (sunken kotatsu, tatami, or table and chairs).
Agree who pays what
Please settle this between the families beforehand. Splitting it evenly, the groom's family paying, the bride's family paying — all are done.
What to wear
Formal dress is usual — a suit, or a dress. We can also arrange kimono hire with dressing and hair and make-up.
Prepare a gift
Something in the region of ¥3,000 to ¥5,000 is customary. Jisaku also has gifts you can take away with you.
Decide who leads
Settling the toast and the order of the introductions beforehand makes the day run smoothly. The nakai will help as well.
