About ryotei
What kind of place is a ryotei?
A ryotei is a place to enjoy traditional Japanese culture and Japanese cooking. Kaiseki made with the ingredients of each season, rooms built with a Japanese sense of quiet, and the care taken over hospitality: together they make the hours here particular. We do not follow the old practice of accepting only introduced guests — anyone is welcome. Guests from Japan and from abroad come to us alike, and our staff will guide you carefully so that a first encounter with Japanese culture is an easy one.
Is there a dress code?
Nothing fixed, though we suggest smart casual or above, as you will be sitting on tatami. We take your shoes at the entrance, so we ask that you wear socks or stockings.
Do I take my shoes off?
Yes. A member of staff will take them at the entrance.
Language and dietary needs
Is English spoken? Is there an English menu?
We have English-speaking staff, and an English menu can be prepared as well.
Are languages other than English spoken? Are there menus in them?
We have staff who speak Chinese, and they will look after you as needed.
What if a guest has dietary restrictions?
Yes. We cater for allergies, vegetarian diets and the like. If you give us the details when you book, the head chef will prepare a menu suited to you.
Is there anything distinctly Japanese to experience?
Tsukiji Jisaku is a traditional Japanese house built in 1899. The garden and the nishikigoi carp mean that simply coming here is already an experience of Japan. Various traditional Japanese performing arts can also be arranged.
Using the restaurant
How many people can you take? Can I come alone?
We have private rooms for parties from two to about 120 guests. We regret that we are unable to accept a single diner.
May I bring my own alcohol?
We ask that food and drink not be brought in.
Is there a cancellation charge?
As a rule, cancellations are free of charge until 16:00 the day before. However, the terms differ depending on the course you choose and the number of guests, so we will give you the details separately.
The rooms
Can I request a room that looks onto the garden?
Almost every room at Tsukiji Jisaku is built so that the garden can be enjoyed from it, so you may rest easy.
Are there private rooms?
There are nineteen private rooms, large and small, and every meal is served in one of them.
Are there rooms with chairs?
Yes, we have them. Please tell us your preference when you book.

We have no parking of our own.
