Tsukiji Jisaku

Shoot it in central Tokyo
the real Japan

Authentic Japanese Location in Central Tokyo

You do not need Kyoto
to get this shot

Tsukiji, next to Ginza. Ten minutes from Tokyo Station.
A pond garden built to be viewed from a seated position, and a sukiya house — both unchanged since the Meiji era.

A 2,600㎡ site full of period furnishings and Japanese detail,
with koi moving through the pond —
the weight of pre-war architecture no set can reproduce,
and genuine furnishings. Several scenes, all on one property.

Three reasons productions choose Jisaku

Three Reasons
Why Tsukiji Jisaku for Location Rental

A genuine Japanese location
you never have to leave the city for

  • 一Authentic Location

    A real Japanese setting
    inside central Tokyo

Ten minutes by taxi from Tokyo Station. You can shoot in a genuine sukiya house and Japanese garden without travelling to Kyoto or Kamakura — which takes a great deal out of both the travel budget and the schedule.

  • 二Versatile

    Hall, garden, corridor, private rooms
    several scenes on one site

A tatami hall, a pond garden with koi, sukiya corridors, private rooms with shoji and an alcove. Scenes with quite different tones can all be shot on one site, with no time lost moving between locations.

  • 三Full Support

    Green rooms and back-of-house.
    Crew meals taken care of.

Private rooms set aside as a VIP green room, a crew base and a make-up room. Jisaku's own crew bento and meals keep a long shoot day going.

A 2-tonne truck can pull up at the door; 4-tonne needs checking in advance. Steps: a ramp can be fitted at the entrance. We will walk you through the loading route at the recce.

Site conditions and floor plan

Facility & Floor Plan

Sound Insulation

How much outside noise gets in

We are in Akashi-cho, Chuo-ku, a quiet residential and academic district, so the noise of the entertainment quarters does not reach us. Rooms facing the garden are particularly quiet. That said, the building is not fully soundproofed, and an emergency vehicle or a helicopter occasionally carries. If you plan to record sound on set, we recommend checking the specific room in person.

Natural Light

Natural light

Many rooms take soft light through shoji. Rooms facing the garden and the pond read well both with and against the light. How the light falls varies by orientation and time of day; some rooms can be dimmed or blacked out with shoji and shutters. For a full-day shoot, ask us to work through the light hour by hour.

Hours

Hours — available around the clock

Normal use runs roughly 10:00–22:00. Early-morning, late-night and overnight (24-hour) shoots can be arranged in advance (out-of-hours surcharge, to be discussed). For multi-day shoots, equipment can be left overnight. Start by telling us the dates and the hours you need.

Parking

Parking and unit vehicles

We have no parking of our own. A crew bus, equipment truck or 2-tonne truck can pull up once confirmed. For larger numbers we will point you to nearby coin-operated and pay-by-the-hour car parks. The loading route is explained at the recce.

Green Rooms

Number and size of green rooms

Nineteen rooms of various sizes can be set aside as green rooms as you need them. A private room for cast or VIPs, a hair and make-up room, a crew base and an equipment store can all run at once. Two, three or more rooms can be held depending on the scale.

Floor & Size

Layout and size

Thirteen rooms on the ground floor and six upstairs — nineteen in all. From the smallest room (about 11㎡) to one of the largest halls in Tokyo (154.22㎡, up to 120 people). Choose by the scale of the shoot. Room-by-room layouts are in the table below and on the rooms and garden page.

How it works

Flow
  • 一 Step 01

    Enquiry and recce

Tell us the purpose, the dates and the scale. Production companies and agencies are shown round on a recce free of charge.

  • 二 Step 02

    Quotation and contract

Quoted on hours, area and the equipment you are bringing. Permissions, the load-in schedule, protection rules and restrictions are all confirmed in advance.

  • 三 Step 03

    Load-in, set-up, shoot

Load-in the day before is possible. On the day a dedicated member of staff attends, looking after the building and supporting the crew. Leave crew meals to us.

  • 四 Step 04

    Wrap and settlement

Settled once the site is confirmed as returned to condition. Corporate bank transfer and invoicing afterwards, with qualified invoices issued immediately.

Frequently asked

Frequently Asked
  • Can we take the whole building exclusively?

As well as taking the whole house, you may hire part of it. To suit the size of your party and your budget, we will propose the best way to use the whole 800-tsubo grounds as your own private space.

  • Can we bring in lighting and large equipment?

Yes. We check power capacity and go through the loading route beforehand. Do ask about using a generator truck.

  • Can we load in and rehearse the day before?

Load-in the day before, set-up on the morning and rehearsal are all supported. The route for large equipment can be checked in advance. Access and wrap times are open to discussion.

  • Can we use only the garden, or only one room?

Partial use can be discussed. We adjust the fee to the area you actually need — the garden alone, or a single room.

  • Can we shoot at night?

Yes. The garden lit at night and light coming through shoji both work well. Early-morning and late-night use is by separate arrangement.

  • Can we fly a drone?

To protect privacy and to comply with the law, we ask that filming follow the guidelines below. We take no part in permit or approval procedures with national or local authorities; filming must be carried out in compliance with the law, on the photographer's own responsibility.

[Compliance and where a drone may fly]
Indoors (guest floors and the like): flight in a space enclosed on all sides falls outside the Civil Aeronautics Act.
Semi-outdoors and outdoors (terrace seating, or with windows or doors open): as Tokyo is in principle designated a Densely Inhabited District (DID), the Act applies. Where filming that includes the terrace requires permission or approval from the MLIT and registration of the aircraft, the photographer must complete those procedures in advance without fail. (We may ask to see the permit on the day.)

Privacy and likeness rights: during normal opening hours we decline filming as a rule, as other guests may appear in the footage and their privacy be infringed. Please film only under a private-hire plan.

    [Disclaimer]
Should a crash or other incident cause an accident, injury, damage to our fixtures, or a legal dispute with a third party, we can accept no responsibility whatsoever. Safety and all other matters remain the photographer's responsibility.

  • Can you arrange meals for the crew?

Jisaku's own crew bento is available, and individual kaiseki can be prepared for cast and VIP guests.
