Celebrating how far a couple has come
in a while there is no replacing

WEDDING ANNIVERSARY
ABOUT ANNIVERSARY

What each anniversary is called

  • Year 1: Paper
  • Year 5: Wood
  • Year 10: Tin
  • Year 15: Crystal
  • Year 20: China (porcelain)
  • Year 25: Silver
  • Year 30: Pearl
  • Year 40: Ruby
  • Year 50: Gold
  • Year 60: Diamond

A wedding anniversary kept at a ryotei

Each anniversary has its own name — paper, tin and so on — and custom suggests a gift to match. Something made of paper, such as an album, for the first year; tin at ten; pottery or porcelain at twenty; and gold at fifty, which is why it is called the golden wedding. The gifts grow richer as the years accumulate, and each anniversary becomes a point at which the bond is deepened.

More and more people now book a table as a present to their parents: a seasonal kaiseki, taken slowly at a ryotei, on the day itself. The flavours of the season and the hospitality that goes with them make a while there is no replacing, and give a couple's history its colour.

Wedding anniversaries at a glance

ANNIVERSARY MILESTONES
YearNameWhere it comes from
Year 1 Paper A married life that began as a blank page, which the two of you will now write on together. An album or a notebook is given, with hopes for what is to come.
Year 5 Wood Roots put down firmly, like a tree, as the bond between husband and wife grows strong. It marks the time when the household takes shape as a great tree.
Year 10 Tin Tin shines handsomely and yet stays soft. The anniversary wishes for a marriage that leans on itself and bends without breaking.
Year 15 Crystal Crystal stands for a clarity with no cloud in it: trust between husband and wife kept pure, and a bond that has deepened.
Year 20 China (porcelain) Pottery and porcelain gain in character with the years. A marriage does the same, adding warmth and depth over a long stretch of time.
Year 25 Silver A shine kept as bright as silver, standing for constant affection and good faith. As a great turning point in a life, it is celebrated on a grand scale.
Year 30 Pearl A pearl is a jewel made slowly over years. The anniversary honours a marriage come to maturity, and the grace and harmony that come from within it.
Year 40 Ruby The deep red of a ruby stands for passion and undying love. It marks a warmth unchanged after forty years, and a bond of real strength.
Year 50 Gold Gold holds its shine for ever. A great milestone, celebrating the strength and the worth of a marriage that has lasted half a century.
Year 60 Diamond A diamond is the hardest of stones and never loses its brilliance. Love unchanging, and the finest anniversary of all, reached together with long life.

ADD-ON

Add our mizutaki

¥5,500/per guest (tax incl.)

Why not share our mizutaki, the dish Jisaku has been loved for since it opened, at the celebration table as well?

"If more than one person makes it, the taste changes" — so it is entrusted to a single cook, and it became the dish the house is known for. Chicken and water, nothing else. The technique was worked out to draw the bird's own quality forward, and it uses the whole chicken, head to feet, with nothing wasted.

Mizutaki (Awa-odori chicken), onion, house ponzu, momiji-oroshi, spring onion
