Events in June|Events to cherish as we enter the rainy season

June is a month of many “milestones” in the quiet of the rainy season. Father's Day, the change of clothes, June Bride, and the purification ceremony over the summer. All of these are important events that help us to prepare our hearts and lives.
Just as the smell of rain suddenly evokes nostalgic memories, I too am sometimes reminded of my father's smile during this season. Why don't you join me in savoring the events of June, including such small fluctuations?

The third Sunday in June is a day to send our thoughts to our "fathers," who are the center of our family, but for whom we are somewhat shy and fail to say thank you. Every year, I remember my father's back when I was a child, and my heart burns a little. The gift does not have to be expensive, just a word of thanks is enough. Rather, a heartfelt word of thanks may be more touching.

Why not send a dish from a ryotei restaurant?

Changing clothes on June 1 is a careful custom unique to Japan, in which people change their way of living as the weather changes. Putting away winter coats and arranging light clothes makes one feel strangely lighter. In ryotei (traditional Japanese-style restaurants), this is the season for replacing furnishings with cooler ones, and replacing the kitsune (folding screens) and other items with summer ones.

June brides are said to be "happy brides in June. This custom, which originates from the legend of a European goddess, is a popular wedding season in Japan as well. Although the rainy season brings a lot of rain, rain is said to symbolize "blessings" and "prosperity," and is actually a good omen. Weddings in June, when the air is moist and gentle, have a romantic charm.

Natsukoshi-no-harae (purification ceremony over the summer) is held at shrines throughout Japan on June 30. Passing through a thatched ring, people purify their minds and bodies for the coming summer by removing the impurities of the past six months. The fragrance of thatch and the tranquil air make you feel as if the dust in your mind has been swept away.

The events of June are imbued with a quiet power to prepare, pray, and give thanks.
Even under a rainy sky, there are moments when the heart suddenly relaxes.

Whether you're expressing your feelings on Father's Day or lightening up your life with a change of clothes--
I feel that such a small accumulation will prepare us for the coming summer.

Please enjoy a gentle time this June as well, facing the season at your own pace.
